Our first building experience was one of those negative situations. We ended up with a beautiful home, but the communication with the builder and his lack of ability to price accurately gave rise to financial misunderstandings. When my husband suggested we build again, I just couldn’t imagine going through that stress again. But, after looking at several existing homes, and finding that none of them really met our needs, we decided to at least talk about the possibilities of building again.
Paul Mitford understood our needs. We visited a couple of his models. We told him what we wanted and he gave us a base price for that, which included allowances for things such as lighting, cabinetry, fixtures, etc. Then, if and when we wanted to upgrade any items in the house, we added that to the price of the home. We always had a clear understanding of where we stood dollar-wise. He made suggestions along the way and always exceeded our expectations. It was actually a pleasant and fun experience.
